Mind the bib...
My grandma used to say "one can get used to just anything... except skipping meals".
Of course this is a woman who gave her grandchildren tacos de "moronga" (pig´s blood sausage) when we were as young as three years old.
More than craving what she was eating, it was a real pleasure watching her eating.
I remember I used to go with her to the local market to have a big tall glass of fresh orange juice for her, and a small carrot one for me.
You can tell how lucky you are when you can keep up with these habits through the years. In my case, given my current stomach "situation", I´m not supposed to eat a whole bunch of stuff like all sorts of nuts, mushrooms, eggs, apples! oh yeah, not to mention I´m lactose intolerant; and much more...
None the less, I still try new things, I´m not going to disappoint my grandma, not me.
And the best way to do it, is following the local costumes according to the season.
And right now, is calçots season.
I learned they started to celebrate calçotades only in Tarragona like a hundred years ago, but recently they started to do it in all Catalunya. Here in Barcelona they have a calçotada at Sants, but also you can try them in restaurants.
Of course the fun of it is to go out in the country, gather with some friends and eat, drink and eat again, like any BBQ (asado) at summer time.
Now, like all things eating calçots has its whole procedure, how to peel it, grab it, dip it in the special sauce, and place it in your mouth.
This year we went to a restaurant called Taberna La Parra. A nice little place in Sants, and it worth the experience.
